Are you thinking about switching out your current halogen headlights for some bright LED ones instead? The sun is already starting to set earlier and earlier. Winters in Canada are dark, and it stays that way for a long time. Having a good set of headlights is incredibly important.
LED head lights are a great option to upgrade your vehicle. LEDs are brighter than halogens and cast a wider pattern. This means you can see farther ahead and have wider peripheral vision.
Switching to LED headlights is actually pretty easy, and only takes a couple of steps.
1. Find your headlight bulb size (part #)
2. Buy a LED/HID headlight conversion kit
3. Locate and unplug your halogen bulbs
4. Plug your LED bulbs and secure them inside your assembly
5. Test and enjoy!
Step 1: Headlight bulb size
When switching to LED headlights you are going to need to know the size of your headlight bulb. You are also going to need to know if it is a single bulb or a double bulb.
Single Beam Bulb - the high and low beams use two separate bulbs
Dual Beam Bulb - the high and low beams are combined in one bulb
There are a few ways to search for your bulb type and size. Online databases, vehicle’s owner manual, remove the bulb and check the information printed on it. You can also come in to LAND Auto Center and talk to our amazing staff!
Step 2: Buy a conversion kit
Now that you know your bulb type and size you will need to purchase an LED headlight conversion kit. Make sure you are getting a conversion kit, and not just an LED bulb. LEDs are simply bulb-shaped devices of semiconductor diodes that emit light when voltage is passed through them. A kit includes a few or several accessories on top of the bulbs, to make replacing it possible or easier.
If your vehicle needs something to allow LED bulbs to work, that accessory will be included with the kit for your vehicle. If your vehicle does not require anything but the bulb as a plug-and-play upgrade, you likely do not need a kit at all.
Our team at LAND Auto Center can help you find out if you need a conversion kit or just an LED bulb.
Step 3: Find and unplug your halogen bulbs
Make sure your engine is off with the keys removed from the ignition and the parking brake on.
Next, pop the hood and locate your headlight bulbs. Unplug the plastic wiring connector from the bulb.
Now you can remove your halogen headlight bulb. Depending on the bulb type you may need to remove a metal clip first, then you simply twist counterclockwise and pull out the bulb.
Step 4: Plug in your new LED headlights
Install the LED bulbs into the headlight socket while being careful not to touch the LED with your bare fingers. Gently twist the bulb in a clockwise direction to secure it.
Now you will connect your conversion kit with the original wiring.

Step 5: Test and Enjoy!
